Who Got In? 2007

Colgate University
In 2006, our freshman class of 744 students is larger than in 2005. The class was selected from 7,873 applications, fewer than in 2005. We admitted 2,217 students, more than in 2005. We do use a wait list. We placed about 1,190 students on our wait list, more than in 2005 and admitted 5 students, fewer than in 2005. Our 2006 yield of admitted students who actually enrolled was about 34.82 percent, higher compared to 2005.

Our male to female ratio for freshman students was 46 percent male, 54 percent female. We admitted more U.S. minority students than in 2005. Those admitted are comprised of 6 percent African American students, 8 percent Hispanic students, 10 percent Asian American students, and 3 percent Native American students. Our retention rate for minority students is about 96.3 percent from freshman to sophomore year; 85.8 percent in six years. About 84.3 percent of all our students graduate in four years, 89.2 in six years.

EARLY AND ELECTRONIC ADMISSIONS
We do have Early Decision applications. We received 640 Early Decision applications, more than in 2005. About 44 percent of our 2006 first-year class was accepted ED.

We admitted 99 international students in 2006, more than in 2005. The majority of our international students come from Canada, India, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bulgaria.

The average GPA for our 2006 class was 3.71. In 2006, our average freshman test scores were between 1310 and 1480 combined SAT, between 29 and 33 ACT. We will not be using the writing section for the class of 2011. The essay will be considered as part of the review process in 2007 admissions.

Campus visits are not a factor in our admissions decisions.

FINANCIAL AID AND PROGRAMS
About 39.4 percent of our students (class of 2010) receive financial aid. The average aid package is $33,573. We do award aid to international students.

We are not need-blind in the admissions process. We do not offer merit scholarships to first-year students. Our 2006-2007 tuition is $34,795.

The most popular majors or programs on our campus are: political science, economics, and English. The new programs or majors we are offering are: a new emphasis in architecture.

ADVICE AND TRENDS
The most important thing we want prospective students to know about our school is: Sixty-eight percent of students participate in off-campus study, and we have a new library and a new science building.

In 2006, we spotted the following admission trends: increased multicultural applications.  

DEADLINES
Our deadline for 2007 admissions is: Early, November 15; Regular, January 16. There is also an Early Decision 2, students must apply by regular decision deadline (January 16), but can change status through March 1.

Michigan State University
In 2006, our freshman class of 7,256 students is smaller than in 2005. The class was selected from 23,247 applications, more than in 2005. We admitted 17,046 students, more than in 2005. We do not use a wait list. Our 2006 yield of admitted students who actually enrolled was about 42.3 percent, lower compared to 2005.

Our male to female ratio for freshman students was 43.4 percent male, 56.6 percent female. We admitted the same number of U.S. minority students than in 2005. Those admitted are comprised of 9 percent African American students, 2 percent Hispanic students, 8 percent Asian American students, and 0.6 percent Native American students. About 41 percent of all our students graduate in four years, 74 percent in six years.

EARLY AND ELECTRONIC ADMISSIONS
We admitted 722 international students in 2006, more than in 2005.

The average GPA for our 2006 class was 3.61. In 2006, our average freshman test scores were 1151.6 combined SAT, 24.6 ACT. The essay will be required but not yet analyzed in 2007 admissions

Campus visits are not a factor in our admissions decisions.

FINANCIAL AID AND PROGRAMS
About 75 percent of our undergraduate students receive financial aid. We do not award aid to international students.

We are need-blind in the admissions process. We do offer merit scholarships to first-year students. Our 2006-2007 tuition is $7,665 for in-state and $20,310 for out-of-state

The most popular majors or programs on our campus are: finance, marketing, and communication. The new program or major we are offering is a new residential college in the arts and humanities.

The Ohio State University
In 2006, our freshman class of 6,162 students is larger than in 2005. The class was selected from 18,908 applications, more than in 2005. We admitted 12,325 students, fewer than in 2005. We do use a wait list. We placed about 148 students on our wait list, more than in 2005 and admitted 0 students. Our 2006 yield of admitted students who actually enrolled was about 50 percent, higher compared to 2005.

Our male to female ratio for freshman students was 1.02 percent Male and 1.00 percent female. We admitted the same number of U.S. minority students as in 2005. Those admitted are comprised of 7 percent African American students, 3 percent Hispanic students, 7 percent Asian American students, and less than 1 percent Native American students. Our retention rate for minority students is about 90 percent from freshman to sophomore year; 62 percent in six years. About 42 percent of all our students graduate in four years, 71 in six years.

EARLY AND ELECTRONIC ADMISSIONS
We do not have Early Decision/Early Action applications.

We admitted 117 international students in 2006, more than in 2005. The majority of our international students come from India, Korea, and Canada.

In 2006, our average freshman test scores were 1200 combined SAT, 26.4 ACT. In regards to the ACT/SAT writing tests, we are waiting to see more research before coming to any conclusions. The essay will not play a role in 2007 admissions.

Campus visits are factor in our admissions decisions.

FINANCIAL AID AND PROGRAMS
About 52 percent of our students receive financial aid. The average aid package is $9,726. We do award aid to international students, with the restriction of test scores (ACT at least 26, SAT at least 1180)

We are need-blind in the admissions process. We do offer merit scholarships to first-year students. Our 2006-2007 tuition is $8,667 for in-state and $20,562 for out-of-state.

The most popular majors or programs on our campus are: English, business, psychology, and biological science. The new programs or majors we are offering are: professional golf management.

ADVICE AND TRENDS
The most important thing we want prospective students to know about our school is: nationally and internationally renowned research university with strong spirit and tradition; nationally recognized first-year program.
